Academic Testing Center (ATC) Information for Faculty

When special test accommodations are needed, it is up to each instructor and student to determine if the accommodation can be handled within the classroom environment. This will allow the students to address problems and/or questions directly with someone who has knowledge of course content and departmental procedure.

When the standard classroom environment will not adequately meet the needs of the accommodation for the student, the Academic Testing Center (ATC) is available to serve the students and faculty.

Faculty Check List and FAQ

To schedule the exam:

  • The student should provide you with a copy of the ATC Test Scheduling Form. If the student has an approved testing accommodation, the student should also provide you with two copies of the Disability Accommodation Notice (DAN). One copy of the DAN is for your records, and the other is for the ATC.
  • You will need to complete the Instructor's section of the Test Scheduling Form, including how we may reach you in case the student has questions during the exam.
  • Once you have completed the form and determined the exam time, you, the student, or your administrative assistant should send a copy of the Test Scheduling Form (and one copy of the DAN, if applicable) to the ATC. We should receive it at least three (3) business days in advance of the exam. The ATC will email a short confirmation of the exam to you and to your student.
    • Email to testingcenter@richmond.edu.
    • Campus mail in a sealed, confidential envelope to the attention of the ATC in the Queally Center.
    • In person (the ATC is located in the Registrar's Office, Queally Center, 3rd floor, Suite 306)
    • Fax to (804) 287-6578 (please call our office at (804) 289-8639 to confirm receipt)
  • Please send exam materials to the ATC (see address information above) so that we receive it at least one (1) full business day before the exam.
  • If the student wants to reschedule the exam, it is up to the student to notify you and the ATC.
  • If you need to reschedule the exam, please contact the student and then contact the ATC at testingcenter@richmond.edu with the proposed new exam time.
The student has requested something that is not specified on the DAN. What is my responsibility?

You are required to allow the testing accommodations specified on the DAN. If a student requests testing accommodations beyond that, you should refer the student to their disability advisor.

By what date must I submit the ATC Test Scheduling Form and/or the test materials to the ATC?

Exam Scheduling Requests

  • The ATC should receive the Test Scheduling Form no later than three (3) business days before the exam. (e.g. an ATC Test Scheduling Form received by 2 p.m. on Friday allows for the student to take an exam at the ATC at 2 p.m. on the following Wednesday).

Exam materials

  • The ATC should receive no later than one full business day prior to the exam. (e.g. If the exam is at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, the ATC should receive the exam materials no later than 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning).
How do I submit the ATC Test Scheduling form and exam materials to the ATC?

You may submit materials four ways:

  • Email to testingcenter@richmond.edu.
  • Campus mail in a sealed, confidential envelope to the attention of the ATC in the Queally Center
  • You, the student, or your administrative assistant, may deliver it in person (the ATC is located in the Registrar's Office, Queally Center, 3rd floor, Suite 306)
  • Fax to (804) 287-6578 (please call our office at (804) 289-8639 to confirm receipt)
The student forgot to sign the form. Can I still send it to you?

Yes; please send it to us. We will have the student sign the form when they come to take the test.

The student just approached me about an exam set for tomorrow. Is it too late to schedule with the ATC?

If we have not received either the scheduling forms or exam materials within the required time frames, most likely you and the student will need to make alternate test arrangements. While you are welcome to submit the form and exam materials to the ATC, with less than three days' notice, the ATC cannot guarantee that there will be space or staff available or that we will receive the exam materials in time.

How do I know if you have received the Test Scheduling Form?

The ATC will email the instructor and student confirmation of the exam time.

Will students be allowed to bring personal items such as smart watches into the ATC?

Except for test accommodation specific items, students will be required to leave all personal items, including smart watches, in lockers.  The ATC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

How will students be monitored during the exam?

All three testing rooms have cameras to allow the ATC staff to monitor students.

How will testing materials be stored while they are in the ATC?

Testing materials will be locked in a secure location within the ATC.

How and when will I receive the test materials back from the ATC?

The ATC will return exam materials by the method you requested on the Test Scheduling Form.

  • You may pick up exams from the ATC between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Registrar's office.
  • We can email it to you.
  • We can send it to you via campus mail in a confidential sealed/stamped envelope.
I have more questions. Who can I contact?

Please feel free to contact the ATC at (804) 289-8639 or at testingcenter@richmond.edu.
