Post 9-11 GI Bill – Chapter 33

Tuition Payment Rate: Effective August 1, 2024, up to $28,937.09 for tuition costs paid directly to the school. If you are eligible for the Post 9-11 GI Bill in addition to another benefit please be sure to consult with a VA representative to determine best benefit options.

Yellow Ribbon Program: Visit Financial Aid for details regarding the University of Richmond’s participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Annual Books and Supplies Stipend: $1,000 per year paid proportionately based on enrollment ($41.67 per credit hour for up to 24 credit hours). Stipend is paid directly to the student in a lump sum for each semester.

Monthly Housing Allowance: The housing allowance is pro-rated based on a student’s rate of pursuit and benefit level and paid directly to students on a monthly basis. This rate is calculated using the Basic Allowance for Housing for an E-5 with dependents using zip code 23173. The Defense Travel Management Office will help you determine the housing allowance rate. Active duty members are not eligible. Distance learning courses will qualify under the new regulations effective October 2011. For distance learning the housing allowance payable is equal to ½ the national average BAH for an E-5 with dependents. Student must be attending at a rate of greater than ½ time. The housing allowance payments are processed by the VA after students’ enrollment is submitted. Because enrollment is submitted during the first week of classes, please be aware that payments will not begin to be processed until that time.

Other VA Benefit Program Rates

For other VA benefit program payment rates including the Montgomery GI Bill-Chapter 30 and the Survivors’ and Dependent’s Educational Assistance Program-Chapter 35 please review the VA's Rate Tables. All benefit programs other than the Post 9-11 GI Bill make payments directly to the student rather than the school.
