Diploma Replacement
Graduates who are in need of a replacement diploma or an additional copy of their University of Richmond diploma, please note the following instructions:
- The charge for a replacement or duplicate diploma is U.S. $75 and checks may be made payable to the University of Richmond. The fee will be waived for School of Law alumni replacing their diploma due to the school's name change.
- Replacement diplomas must be requested by the bearer of the diploma with that individual's signature.
- To replace a lost or destroyed diploma complete the Replacement Diploma Application available on the Web or at the Office of the University Registrar.
In the case of an additional copy of your diploma for legitimate professional purposes, a one-time request can be made; complete the Replacement Diploma Application. Note that the new diploma will have the notation "Duplicate Copy" in the lower right corner of the diploma. This notation will not be visible when the diploma is framed. Please also note that diplomas are issued in the format currently used and bear the signatures of the current University officers.
Once we receive your request we will forward the order to the printer, which will take six weeks to process; we will then mail your diploma to you immediately.
Replacement of Law School Diploma due to Law School Name Change
Graduates who are in need of a replacement diploma due to the name change to "University of Richmond School of Law" please note the following instructions:
- The charge for a replacement diploma of U.S. $75 will be waived for School of Law alumni replacing their diploma due to the school's name change.
- Replacement diplomas must be requested by the bearer of the diploma with that individual's signature.
- To replace a diploma, complete the Law School Replacement Request Form available on the Web or at the Office of the University Registrar.
Replacement of Diploma Due to Name Change
If you have a legal name change and request a diploma in that new name, your University of Richmond records will be changed to reflect that new name. After the University completes that step, your University of Richmond financial records, and your future academic transcripts will carry that new name.
Graduates who are in need of a replacement diploma of their University of Richmond diploma due to a name change, please note the following instructions:
- To replace the diploma because of a name change, please complete the Replacement Diploma Application and the Name Change Affidavit available on our website or at the Office of the University Registrar. Both forms must be accompanied by the appropriate legal documentation of the name change as well as the return of the original diploma.
- The charge for a replacement diploma is U.S. $75 and checks may be made payable to the University of Richmond.
The new diploma will have the wording "copy reissued due to legal name change" and the date reissued at the bottom right of the document. Once we receive your request we will forward the order to the printer, which will take six weeks to process; we will then mail your diploma to you immediately.
Replacement of Diploma for Deceased Alumni
Requests for diploma replacements for deceased alumni by a spouse or child will be considered and should include the following:
- The charge for a replacement or duplicate diploma is U.S. $75 and checks may be made payable to the University of Richmond.
- To replace a lost or destroyed diploma complete the Replacement Diploma Application available on the Web or at the Office of the University Registrar.
- A signed explanation of why a diploma is being requested.
- A copy of the death certificate, obituary, or executor of will.
- Documentation proving relationship.
Acceptable Documentation
The following types of documents can be used when submitting the form in-person at the Office of the University Registrar:
- Photographic documents that show the new name. Typical documents are a drivers license; passport; military I.D., alien registration card (Green Card)
- Legal documents that show the former and new name. Typical documents are a certified copy of a marriage certificate, court order, divorce decree, naturalization papers can be used to document name change for a complete change of first or last name
If submitting the form by mail, a notarized affidavit can be used, declaring two variations as representing the same person. Please use the Name Change Affidavit.
